Saturday at the Park

Last Saturday I went to the park for a walk, it had been snowing all night before and all city was dressed in white. It was very cold and in the park even the lakes were partially frozen. I took my camera and after I took this first photo to this sign were it says that is forbidden to dive I saw a woman jumping to the cold water, her dog had been running after ducks over the frozen lake but he end up falling in to the water, in a instinctive move the owner of the dog jumped in to the lake swimming and breaking the ice to safe the dog from the cold water but she almost drown herself in the lake struggling to get into the opposite margin , mean while the dog swim and climb over again and safe himself. Everything end up just with a woman and a dog all wet. I continue our walking in the park and it was really beautiful. In this park there is this big yellow mansion that it use to be the house of the Danish Queen and that serves now as house to the Queen Guards. Everyone but specially kids were enjoying the snow and doing some skying.

Why do we Run?

I keep asking why do we Run? Today in the park and even with temperatures almost below zero I saw many people running, some of them even pushing at the same time they're babies in the cars. We run not only to improve our physical health, or to lose weight and keep fitted, but also because the psychological benefits. In a time where stress is one of the most commons healthy problems it seems Run is one of the best treatments. Whether by allowing you the time to think about life's problems or time to escape them for awhile, tension easily flies by the wayside as you fly over the miles. Distance runs are great for solving problems that are nagging at you. What better than a 3 hour run all by yourself to clear your mind and allow you to pin down an answer? Speed runs are great for tearing through aggression and anger. Focus all that emotion into a few sprints and you'll feel better in no time.
Running also builds confidence like few other individual sports can. It allows the runner to defeat trial after trial, growing stronger and more sure of themselves with each foot strike. It allows you to truly climb hills and clear obstacles. It provides a feeling of empowerment and freedom that comes with knowing that your legs and body are strong and capable. Confidence is even more a product of running for those who lose weight and gain a better self-image through running. As you can see, the benefits of jogging affect the health of your body and your mind and I guess I will also start running one of this days.

Finally the Snow

This winter in Denmark the snow was late just today the city woke up in white, normally it starts coming in December according to local people. For me its a totally new experience of life because I never lived in a country with snow or this cold. I lived all my life in Portugal and the last year I lived in the warm coast of Caribe in Mexico where temperatures never pass below 25 degrees Celsius. In Denmark people are used to live with snow and nothing stops, everyone still cycling to work or run in the park. I have also to get used to this climate and is not that hard with the right cloths. Another thing is the beauty of the city which is already amazing but dressed in white makes it almost an unreal scenery.
I just took a few photos but tomorrow I expect to take more.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

This photos are from Hypnotic Brass Ensemble a jazz band that I meet in New York in December. They are eight brothers suns of the jazz trumpeter and composer Kelan Phil Cohran who is a hugely influential figure in the history of Chicago music.
The sound of they're music is very melodic and sophisticated jazz and it was amazing ear them in the Union Square subway station even mixed with the sounds of trains coming all the time.
During my stay in New York I found them almost every days playing in the station or outside in the streets and every time a crowd of people was gathered around them listening and enjoying the great music.
Soon I will bring some news about them and where you can buy or listen to they're music.
